Income generation workstream helps sector understand social enterprise

Help is at hand to improve third sector knowledge about social enterprise – the business model that creates gains across multiple outputs, including social and environmental impact as well as economic return.

Income Generation workstream, led by acevo, is working with Social Enterprise London to deliver the ‘Understanding Social Enterprise Programme’ (USE) to voluntary and community sector support providers across England.

The USE training programme consists of four one-day workshops spread over a six-month period. By the end of the programme participants should be able to:

  • assess the factors which may result in an organisation becoming a social enterprise
  • determine the most appropriate organisational model for a social enterprise
  • explain how the social and commercial objectives of a given social enterprise are linked to each other through its business plan
  • review the issues associated with how a social enterprise handles a mix of different types and sources of income, and outline any specific legal or financial factors that apply to a given social enterprise
  • describe a specific organisation and explain in detail why its values and purpose are suited to the social enterprise model, and how this is reflected in its activities and procedures.

What qualification will you gain?

The programme is endorsed by the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI) as meeting its Social Enterprise Support Standards, and is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) as a nationally-recognised Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) Level 5 Award. Participants will need to complete a study (1500-2000 words) on an existing or emerging social enterprise in order to gain the ILM VRQ Level 5 Award

Dates and other details are provided in the training and events listings on this site.
